Tata Celebrates Production Milestone: 600,000 Units of Nexon SUV Rolled Out in Less Than 7 Years

Tata Motors has achieved a remarkable feat by rolling out the 600,000th unit of its best-selling SUV, the Nexon, from its production plant in Pune. The compact SUV, available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric variants, has secured its position as the best-selling SUV in India within seven years since its market debut.

The Nexon has undergone three significant updates during its lifecycle, with the latest facelift introducing a more modern design language and additional features. Despite challenges posed by the health crisis and market fluctuations, Tata doubled its production numbers in less than two years, reaching the three lakh production milestone in February 2022.

Previously, Tata announced the two lakh production milestone in June 2021, achieving the subsequent one lakh mark in less than eight months. This accelerated production pace showcases the brand’s commitment and resilience in the competitive market.

The Nexon lineup includes a 1.2L three-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 120 PS and 170 Nm, as well as a 1.5L four-cylinder turbo diesel engine generating 116 PS and 260 Nm. These powertrains are paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed AMT.

Packed with features, the Nexon offers a ground clearance of over 200 mm and a spacious boot capacity of 350 liters. The interior boasts a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, six airbags, automatic climate control, sunroof, layered dashboard, touch controls for AC, a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, and more.

Safety-wise, the sub-four-meter SUV has earned a five-star rating in Global NCAP crash test assessments. It competes with popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Mahindra XUV300. The electric variant of the Nexon has played a significant role in contributing to Tata’s overall volume in recent years.
